[im-pri-mis] Only ONE Life to Live for Christ!

Are you a good person?

Are you a good person?

Genesis 6:3, 5-6

3 And the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”  5 Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.

As I read that, it is clear to me just how much God hates sin.  He cannot stand to have sin in His presence.

So, that got me to thinking about His second coming and the question of preparedness.  I have a question for you?

Q: Are you prepared to meet the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords?  The Judge of the earth?   1 Timothy 2:3-6 has this to say:

3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time,

So the question comes down to this:  Have you broken God’s commandments?

  • 12 “ Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.
           13 “You shall not murder. — Jesus equates hating with murder
           14 “You shall not commit adultery.  — Jesus says that if you have lusted after someone, you have commmited adultery (and we have all lusted)
           15 “You shall not steal.
           16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
           17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”
  • We have all broken God’s commandments, which means that we are all guilty before Him.  If He was to judge us according to the Ten Commandments (see above) we would all fail if we were honest.

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23 (emphasis my own)   That is why Jesus had to die on the Cross, because we have violated His law, we have tromped all over His rule book for our life.

  • The good news is that Jesus came to earth 2000 years ago to die for the sins of mankind.  To pay the ultimate penalty for our sins, and in doing that to set us free from sin and to wash us with His blood.   Paul says:

    15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. 16However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.  – 1 Timothy 1:15-16  (emphasis my own)

20 But now Christ is risen from the dead, andhas become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive  – 1 Corinthians 15:20-22 (emphasis my own)

We are all dead in our sins, we are utterly helpless to save ourselves.   He alone can save us!  Jesus makes it very clear when He states: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” – John 14:6  (emphasis my own)

If you were to die today where would you be going?  To heaven or hell?  I would encourage you to read your Bible and seek after the Lord with all of your heart!   The Bible says:

13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29:13)

From Psalm 51:7-17

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Let me hear joy and gladness;
let the bones that you have broken rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins,
and blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from your presence,
and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and uphold me with a willing spirit.

13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways,
and sinners will return to you.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God,
O God of my salvation,
and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
and my mouth will declare your praise.
16 For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;
you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

The Lord is searching after those who have a broken and contrite heart, that is what he wants in all of us, a grief over sin and a turning away from evil and unrighteousness.

 This is the most important question to ask yourself.  Am I really saved?  Do I know for certain where I will be spending eternity?

Jesus is THE only way to heaven.  For a good resource to get you started in your walk with God, I would suggest this book and this book.  They are a great place to start!
