This is the card that Jaden made for Mom. It is SO cute with the butterflies, turtles and writing in his little boy script.
Mom poses with her presents after enjoying a some lemon cheese cake with strawberries and lemonade.

So, it’s like winter again here in McKinney! I thought that winter was behind us, but what else can I expect, this is Texas right?
I am looking forward to the return of 70 degree weather tomorrow and the sky that is lit up with the torch of our sun. It actually snowed here for a little while this morning, but it didn’t even stick, just melted upon contact. The blessing of this weather has been the nice 2 inches of rain that we got over the last couple of days, a great way to start off the growing season.
I hope that you are all staying warm and that you have a wonderful weekend and a beautiful Sabbath!
Shabbit Shalom (sabbath peace) my readers.

Today is my dear Mother’s birthday, she is turning 49 years old! Wow!
May the Lord richly bless you Mom, and May His face ever shine upon you and give you His peace, may He be gracious to you and strengthen you with many more fruitful years of service on this earth.
I am so blessed to be called your daughter. I love you Mom!!! The Lord has been so very gracious to our family, especially to you during your illness, and He has guided us to the right people to help you in your healing process. I am so grateful!

Last week was spring break for much (if not all) of the country, and even though we are home educators, we still take advantage of the school holidays and summer break. This year was no exception, and since we live in a large and bustling urban hub North of Dallas, surrounded by smog and the sounds of city life, we took a rare trip “out.”
Destination: Glen Rose, Texas – more specifically, Dinosaur Valley State Park and the famed fossil foot prints of dinosaurs and yes, humans (gasp!!) in the Paluxy river. The first (and last) time we had visited was several years ago, when Jaden was but a babe. So, wanting to quince our ever present thirst for adventure the six of us “kids” packed up the car and head off “into the wild blue yonder” as the saying goes.
First stop was our all favorite natural health food store in Richardson, Natural Grocers. The snack aisle loomed large in the front of our minds (and taste buds). After choosing our selection of healthful snacks and drinks (ah yes, the delightful taste of Tazo Lemon tea still lingers…) we left to continue out of the DFW metroplex. The drive was long and at times dare I say tedious, but for the most part enjoyable. We left our house in McKinney around 11, and didn’t get out of the DFW area until close to 2!
After running behind schedule due to several factors, we finally arrived at our first stop – the Creation Evidence Museum not 5 minutes out of the Dinosaur Valley State Park gate. We had previously visited and were impressed with the variety of subjects covered in such a small enclosure (I mean the building at that time was little more than a glorified storage shed). The museum is much improved from our last visit and is now housed in a large window filled building containing two stores. Most of the exhibits are under construction. They have a large hyperbaric chamber (it looks like a small submarine) which is in an incomplete state at this point, but they are hoping to use it in the near future for experimentation on plants and fish. We stayed around for about 30 minutes, viewing the many scrolls containing the entire Old Testament (some as old as 700 years!) and looked at the many fossils, rocks, and posters explaining each one in the display cases that lined the walls.
Proceeding from the museum, we headed up the road toward the entrance of DVSP where we encountered a long line of waiting vehicles. In this line we stayed for several minutes as it inched its way forward. After securing our days pass ($20) we found a parking spot and then we made our way to the Paluxy river and the dino tracks! We all splashed in the river, and I swam whilst laughing with the others (in a gentle way of course) in their attempts to swim in a stony river with little practice. The stay was much too short for the drive, but we still had a load of fun (and sand) and memories to bring home. I hope that it will be a day that Jaden will look back on with fond memories of his time playing in an historic river, much disputed over but that has been there at least since the Flood… one that he can return to in the coming years and remember the good time we had there.
So, that was our spring break adventure… classic Kautt style!

Christian Filmmakers 36-hour Contest
March 23, 2009: On Friday, April 10, 2009 Christian filmmakers around the world will
begin producing a three-minute story on video. 36-hours later they will upload their video
to YouTube. Entries will be judged on Story, Cinematography, Sound, Performance and
Editing. The winner gets $500.
Nathaniel Bluedorn, administrator of Christian Filmmakers.org explains, “Our goals with
this contest are to (1) have fun, (2) showcase the stories Christians are telling today and
(3) connect filmmakers. Christian Filmmakers.org is a growing network of faith-based
filmmakers. We started in 2007 and we have more than 1100 members now. We’re doing
this contest to help build connections between Christian screenwriters and actors and
directors – all types of film professionals – around the world.”
The competition will begin at noon on April 10 with the publication of a list of seven
“security elements,” three of which must be included in every film submission. This will
verify that the film was produced within the 36-hour time limit. More details on the
competition, including a complete list of the official rules, can be found at http://www.christianfilmmakers.org/contest/news/contest/
Christian Filmmakers.org is the outgrowth of a Google Group which was originally
conceived as a means for maintaining contact among alumni of the 2005 San Antonio
Independent Christian Film Festival. Launched on August 22, 2007, Christian
Filmmakers.org has rapidly grown to include 1100 members at the time of this writing.
The site is focused on facilitating discussion and building relationships between Christian
filmmakers without excluding anyone on the basis of gender, race, or denomination.

Today was another beautiful, almost spring day here in N. Texas. The skies were blue and clear and the sun shone brightly (the high was over 80). It was the perfect day for an adventure, which is exactly what we did.
Joel has been wanting to purchase another vehicle for his own use for some time now, and would prefer a diesel one so that he can do the bio-diesel thing. There is a suburban that has been up on craigslist for several weeks now that has drawn his interest, and so today we drove the 5 hour round trip to see and test drive it. Since we were going to be in the general vicinity, we decided to swing by Dinosaur Valley State Park and see the dinosaur foot prints and human foot prints that are preserved in the Paluxy river that runs through Glenrose.
Before we went to Dinosaur Valley State Park, we stopped off at the Creation Evidence museum. Dr. Carl Baugh has a small creation apologetics / research ministry down there and the museum was quite packed, which was great! They have a whole display of old scrolls that contain the whole Old Testament. Some of them were as old as 700 years! They have quite a few fascinating fossils, pictures of nature and resources.
We swam in the cool waters and enjoyed a few minutes of gazing at the embedded relics of a by-gone age of creatures fierce in nature that once lived with man (not so long ago). The river has many slippery rocks, covered with moss and the gritty river floor made for an interesting bathing experience.
Jaden found a stick (such a boy!) and clamoured over rocks and slipped in the shallow pools made from the naturally rocky ground. It was a wonderful break from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Then we drove another 30 minutes to Tolar, and the diesel suburban. It is dark blue and really quite nice for its age (1995). It rides very smoothly, the interior is solid and comfy and it runs well. We were quite impressed, and I think that we might just be making another trip down there a week from today.
You can be in prayer for our family, several of us are dealing with colds or allergies (not sure which), but we are coughing, sneezing, wheezing and sore throats. Jaden has a slight fever right now and is not feeling very well. I hate seeing my family ill. Heaven looks better all the time.
I hope that your Spring Break has been a blessed one! Have a great weekend and a beautiful Sunday!

This is the fifth interview in our Daughters at Home series. Hannah is a new friend of mine, she lives in Missiouri with her family. It has been a blessing to get to know her and her family over the last several months. I hope that you are blessed by her words!
Q: Tell us about yourself and your family.
A: I am a 16 year-old homeschooled student, the 6th of 9 children: Crystal, Angela, Amber, Joshua, Abigail (Abbie), me, Daniel, Luke and Ben; with a nephew, Nicholas, and niece Harper.
Q: What is your role currently in your home?
A: Right now I help with the house work (cleaning, cooking, sewing, etc.) and do my school.
Q: When did you first realize that being a stay-at-home daughter was God’s plan for your life?
A: I don’t think I can remember the first time I ever realized it. It just seemed to come naturally because that’s what my family believes is right.
Q: What are some things that you have learned because of your involvement in your home?
A: I’ve learned to cook, and sew, while many girls my age and even older never have that chance. Also I’ve had more experience with babies and little children.
Q: What is the biggest blessing about being at home?
A: Probably getting to spend more time with my family and learning more about being a homemaker.
Q: What books have influenced you and inspired you in your role as a daughter at home?
A: “Mother” would probably be one of them, I LOVE that book
Q: The Bible has some important things to say about women and their roles, which verse(s) has helped you to understand your role more clearly?
A: One of the main Scriptures is Proverbs 31, which, I think, is probably one of the most common passages for this topic. But it is really a wonderful Scripture! One of the verses that stands out to me is verse 26, “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.”
Q: If you had the opportunity to speak to other maidens, what advice would you bestow upon them?
A: Hmm, that’s hard. I guess, keep trusting in God, keep yourself pure, and honor your parents.
Q: What are some of your favorite tasks that you perform around your home?
A: I like cooking breakfast, as well as doing any sewing that needs to be done.
Q: Share with us some practical ways that can help make your home a more God-honoring, peaceful, and welcoming environment?
A: One thing that can help is, don’t be too critical. Often I’ll be critical of one of my siblings and that will start an argument.
Q: What are some of your favorite pastimes or hobbies?
A: I really like sewing (especially historical costumes), music, reading and writing.
Q: Name some of the individuals who have influenced/impacted your life?
A: My family would have to be at the top of the list, but some other people would be my life-long friend and neighbor Sarah M, the Botkin sisters (even though I’ve never met them), and Katie and Torie M.
Q: What are some of the ways that you assist your father in his vision for your family?
A. I help with breakfast, and do other odds and ends around the house.
Q: Does your family own a business? If so, what is your role?
A: Not right now, but we have considered it.
Q: What is your family’s ministry?
A: We’ve recently started having a get-together that we want to use as a ministry at some point.
Q: What lesson(s) has the Lord been teaching you recently?
A: One thing He has taught me is to get out of my “comfort zone.” There are times when we need to “get out there and do something” and often we are hiding in our comfort zone when we ought to be working. Also, Proverbs 11:7 says ” When a wicked man dies, his hope perishes; all he expected from his power comes to nothing.” Thinking about this makes me think of the things we work for: do I want to work my whole life for something that will last after I’m gone, or something that will end when my life on earth ends? (emphasis added)
Thank you so much Hannah for sharing! May you my readers be blessed by her words!
